Android 5.0.1 download NOW for Google Nexus 5 -- Lollipop update fixes issues, we hope
Google on Friday began the rollout of the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update for the Nexus 4and Nexus 5 smartphones in India. The OTA update for the Nexus 4 (seen below) are sized at around 16.7MB, while the Nexus 5 update (seen above) is sized at around 13.3MB.

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop includes a number of stability updates, apart from fixes for bugs about which users have been complaining for quite some time. "This software update will upgrade your Nexus 5/ Nexus 4 to Android 5.0.1, which improves performance and stability and fixes bugs. Downloading via Wi-Fi is recommended. Downloading over a mobile network or while roaming may cause additional changes," states the OTA update description. The update for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 handsets comes with build number LRX22C.

In the last few weeks, Android 5.0 Lollipop has been in the news for all the wrong reasons with several user reports pointing to multiple bugs in the final release.

Some of the Android 5.0 Lollipop bugs recently reported by users include a Wi-Fi bug; an SMS bug; app switcher bug; another bug that removed the very useful 'silent mode' from phones, and a flashlight bug was also reported to be affecting some Nexus 5 and Nexus 4 users. Adding to the long list of Android 5.0 Lollipop bugs, two more were reported - one about the broken manual account sync button in settings, and other about frequent restart of apps in the background.

Honda CB Unicorn 160 launched

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. has just launched a new 160cc CB Unicorn, in two variants – one being the CB Unicorn 160 standard, priced at ₹69,350, the other being the CB Unicorn 160 CBS, which is basically the same bike that’s equipped with a combined-braking system, costing ₹74,414 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Both versions of the new Unicorn feature a 240mm disc brake up front and rear drum setup (no option of a rear disc) on 17-inch alloy wheels.

The CB Unicorn 160 houses Honda’s all-new 163cc single cylinder unit that’s developed with Honda Eco Technology (HET) to produce peak power of 14.5bhp @ 8,000rpm and 14.1Nm @6,000rpm. This motor is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The new bike that weighs in at 135kgs has a claimed top speed of 106kph and boasts a fuel economy figure of 62kpl.

The rather conservatively styled new CB Unicorn looks much like the older CB Trigger, just with minor tweaks to it. Although the new bike borrows many technical aspects from the Trigger – like the telescopic front forks and the monoshock rear suspension – the headlamp unit, the LED tail lamps units, fuel tank with extensions, and saree-guard design have been restyled and are unique to the CB Unicorn 160. The new bike is available in 4 colours. While Honda has started taking orders for the new Unicorn 160, deliveries will commence from the 3rd week of January 2015.

BlackBerry launches long-awaited Classic smartphone

BlackBerry launched its long-awaited Classic on Wednesday, a smartphone it hopes will help it win back market share and woo those still using older versions of its physical keyboard devices.
The Canadian mobile technology company said the new device, which bears striking similarities to its once wildly popular Bold and Curve handsets, boasts a larger screen, longer battery life, an expanded app library with access to offerings from Amazon.com Inc's Android App store, and a browser three times faster than the one on its legacy devices.
"The conversation about BlackBerry has changed in the last year," Chief Executive John Chen said as he launched the Classic at Manhattan's upscale Cipriani restaurant. "We are here to stay, there is no question about that. Now we have to engineer our growth."
He said BlackBerry had listened to its fans and brought back the command bar functionality that helped make its legacy phones easy to navigate.
When the company initially introduced its new BlackBerry 10 operating system and devices early in 2012 it put more emphasis on touchscreens, alienating many fans of its physical keyboard.
Those who moved to the new physical keyboard phones that BlackBerry launched later were unhappy that command keys such as the Menu, Back, Send and End buttons, along with the trackpad had been dropped.
With the Classic and the recent launch of its Passport smartphone, Chen is in some ways taking the company back to its roots, re-emphasizing the physical keyboard, rather than trying to compete directly against the touchscreen handsets of dominant rivals like Samsung Electronics and Apple.
"We expect the Classic to be the most popular BlackBerry enterprise device and the easiest transition for current BB7 (legacy device) users," said Wells Fargo analyst Maynard Um.
The launch also coincided with an upgrade on BlackBerry's stock by BGC analyst Colin Gillis, who raised his price target to $12.50 from $11, and rating to "buy" from "hold."
The Waterloo, Ontario-based company, which also unveiled a new suite of enterprise applications and software bundles targeted at major corporate clients, said the Classic is on sale immediately on Amazon.com and shopblackberry.com.

Top 5 performance motorcycles

If budget isn’t a constraint, you can buy anything from a 50 cc moped to an exquisite, hand-made Italian machine. However, sometimes there is a limiter on how much we can spend on the things we want or need. So you could be in the market for a performance motorcycle and all you want to part ways with is nothing more than a hundred and fifty thousand Indian rupees. Allow us to help you with the dilemma then, as we list the Top 5 performance motorcycles you can buy in India which cost under 1.5 lakh INR.
These machines are capable of reaching top speeds which are close to knocking off the last three zeroes in the 150,000 figure and some of them feature technology which you wouldn’t even find in motorcycles twice their price. For example, the Yamaha R15, which comes with a delta box frame and the Karizma ZMR, which boasts of vertically stacked twin headlamps (ahem!). If the only reason you wouldn’t buy the RC 390 is that it sports horizontally stacked twin projector headlamps. So if you are ready with the cash, here’s our list which goes in the descending order according to the price.
KTM Duke 200

Price: 1,52,257
If there is any motorcycle out there which fits the ‘Pocket Rocket’ tag, it has to be this mad machine. The 200 cc, fuel injected engine churns out 25 bhp, 19.2 NM of torque and all that power is transferred to the wheels via a 6-speed, close ratio gearbox. If the numbers don’t convince you, take a test ride and you will agree there is nothing else in the market which will thrill you more on the southern side of a lakh and a half rupees. The fun doesn't stop here, the Duke 200 is lavishly equipped with front upside down forks, a trellis frame, disc brakes at the front and rear and premium MRF rubber, all coupled in a naked, compact package. If the orange shade doesn't gel with your personality, the KTM 200 is also sold in an all black variant.
Honda CBR 150 R
Price: 1,43,437
So you love the colour orange, you love faired motorcycles, but all you want is a Honda. The Honda CBR 150 R is the motorcycle for you then and your ticket to the CBR club. Styled on similar lines as the CBR 250 R, the motorcycle pumps out 17.5 bhp at 10,500 rpm and 12.66 Nm of torque at 8500 rpm from its 4-valve, DOHC, liquid cooled, 149.4 cc motor, all transferred to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox. Brakes are disc units at the front, as well as the rear, while clip-on’s ensure a sporty riding position. The Honda CBR150R is ideal for those who want a good companion for city riding and a bike which can take some sports-touring in its stride. Being a Honda, expect the motorcycle to be reliable and the quality to be top notch.

Yamaha YZF R15 V2.0

Price: 1,29,704
When Yamaha first launched the R15, people went crazy. The fully faired motorcycle boasted of many firsts like a Deltabox frame, a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve 150 cc engine, disc brakes at both ends and specially developed sticky compound rubber. It came with a radiator for Christ’s sake, which was only seen on cars in India until that time. Various sensors, fuel-injection and the R1 inspired styling appealed to many, some even knocked off the ‘5’ from R15, added projector headlamps and for the not so keen eyed, it looked dangerously similar to the litre class bike. Why should you still buy it? It still is one of the sweetest handling motorcycles around corners, the revised styling still looks fresh and if you live anywhere close to a track, or a piece of tarmac which resembles one, this should be the weapon of choice amongst the motorcycles we have listed here.
Hero Karizma ZMR.

Price: 1,16,030
No we haven’t gone crazy, we know for some, the design of this motorcycle is a little too outworldly, but then you’d add your name to the list of folks who judge a book by its cover if you manage to overlook the Karizma ZMR. This machine is still a tool to reckon with, if it is the call of the open road which you wait to answer all week long. The Air-cooled, 4-stroke, single cylinder OHC, fuel injected, 223 cc engine now features an oil cooler and develops 20 bhp at 8000 rpm and a peak torque figure of 19.7 Nm of at 6500 rpm. The ZMR can comfortably sing all day long at triple digit speeds on the highway, where the tall windscreen and a relaxed riding position will make you buy a map of India and learn all about the rich geography of our country, since you didn’t pay enough attention in school. This is the motorcycle to buy if you are someone who has attained a super awesome state of mind, where you don’t really care of what others think and talk about you, and anyways, if you think what the others will think about you, what will they think about on their own?
Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS

Price: 92,705
Surprisingly, the most expensive motorcycle in the list is also the cheapest. You might think we are acting crazy today, but we are not, seriously. The Pulsar 200 is essentially a saree clad, civilized cousin of the Duke 200. While the Duke 200 is that career oriented, focused woman, who doesn’t like the idea of living a family life, the Pulsar 200 NS is someone who is at ease juggling between meetings and just as comfortable helping the kids with their homework. You wish to go touring? It will nod its head. You want to commute? It will oblige. The 4 – stroke, SOHC, 4 Valve, liquid Cooled, single cylinder, 200 cc engine is identical to the one on the Duke 200 and Bajaj has added 3 spark plugs to ensure the Pulsar 200 NS stokes the two wheeled fire within you. It develops 23.5 bhp at 9500 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 8000 rpm, figures which are almost identical to the Duke 200, available on a bike which costs half a lakh lesser than the KTM.
All the products mentioned here have a unique character. Some are manufactured to be focused at a few things, while some are made to be the jack of all trades. Decide on your motorbiking priorities and pick any one of these if you have one hundred and fifty thousand rupees to spend and a thrill machine is whats on your mind.

Bajaj Pulsar 180NS

  • Expected Launch Date- Around June 2015
  • Expected Price-  INR 85,000
  • Engine- 180 cc
  • Power- 21PS
Bajaj is gearing up to launch its new Pulsar variant around mid 2015. Priced decently at 85,000 Pulsar 180NS is yet another Pulsar model to be watched out for. With a 180 cc engine and a power of 21PS this bike promises to stand up to its expectations of decent performance and looks.

India-bound Ducati Scrambler production begins

The very first Ducati Scrambler, set to be the cheapest Ducati ever, rolled off the production line in Borgo Panigale, Italy, 40 years after the last Ducati Scrambler rolled off the line back in the ’70s. The new Scrambler, launched at this year’s Intermot show in Cologne, Germany, is poised to be the biggest money spinner for Ducati as the Italian manufacturer ventures into other, non-performance based segments and developing markets (India being one of them). Or as Ducati says, the Scrambler encompasses “birth of a new brand, a new approach to the motorcycling world that looks beyond performance and technology to encompass freedom of expression, fun and shared positivity.”

The Scrambler will be available in four versions: Icon, Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic. All are being aimed at enthusiasts with different tastes in riding style. The Scrambler develops 75 hp of power from the air-cooled 803cc, 90-degree L-Twin, with Desmodromic and 2 valves per cylinder motor, 12 hp down from the Monster 796, that uses the same engine. However, torque has been boosted to 50 pound-feet at 5,750 rpm. Weighing in at just 170 Kgs (wet), performance should be sprightly. With a seat height of 790mm (that can be further reduced to 770mm), the Scrambler’s appeal will spread further to the vertically-challenged, developing world riders.

The tubular steel trellis frame is Scrambler specific, with 24-degree rake and 4.4-inch trail. Aside from rear spring pre-load, the KYB suspension is not adjustable. There will also be a wide range of accessories for buyers to personalize their motorbikes including an apparel collection, as well. Priced at INR 5.31 lakh (converted) for the Icon version, the Scrambler is sure to create a hub hub in the Indian motorcycling sphere when it reportedly arrives here in the first half of 2015. Three other versions, the Urban Enduro with a high front fender; the Full Throttle, inspired by dirt trackers; and the Classic with a bit more retro flavor are all are priced at INR 6.20 lakh (converted). The Ducati Scrambler will be in dealerships at the end of January in its Icon version.

Ducati, has officially announced that it will make a comeback to India in the first half of 2015. The first bike to be launched in the country will be the Scrambler. Stay tuned for more on this one!

Android 5.0 coming to Galaxy Note 3, Note 4, S4 and S5 in early 2015

If you're an owner of a Samsung handset and you're awaiting an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop then you may be in luck, as a number of Samsung devices will be getting the upgrade in early 2015.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Note 4, Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S5 (LTE version), should be getting the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop at some point in early 2015.
This is according to Seoul-based Reuters tech correspondent, Vincent Se Young Lee, whoposted the news on Twitter.

Fancy a lick?

We don't have much more detail to go on, such as if all the handsets will be updated at once or if there will be a slower rollout, updating the newer and more popular handsets before moving on to the older models.
We're also still waiting to hear if and when other Samsung devices will be updated to Android 5.0.

All Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices to receive Windows 10 update, says Microsoft

Good news for windows phone 8 lumia users.

Microsoft has announced that all of the Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices will be receiving the forthcoming mobile version of Windows 10 when it releases. Earlier this week, the official Lumia Twitter account publicly declared company’s plan to upgrade all Lumia smartphones with Windows Phone 8 to Windows 10 next year.

A report from September claimed that the company would be releasing the developer preview of the mobile version of Windows 10 in January 2015. From what we have heard so far, the Windows 10’s mobile version will feature split-screen multi-tasking for handsets with 4.9-inch or larger displays. The operation system is also pegged to come with actionable notification which will supposedly let users interact and respond to notifications without opening the corresponding app.
The earlier report also suggested that while the new operating system will arrive on all Lumia devices running on Windows Phone 8, not all the features will be available on the low-tier smartphones. This is a welcome move from Microsoft to make the operating system available on existing and older devices as well.
When the company announced Windows Phone 8, handsets running Windows Phone 7 weren’t eligible to receive the update. This was due to a major kernel change, and not surprisingly the decision was highly criticized by users.
