All Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices to receive Windows 10 update, says Microsoft

Good news for windows phone 8 lumia users.

Microsoft has announced that all of the Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices will be receiving the forthcoming mobile version of Windows 10 when it releases. Earlier this week, the official Lumia Twitter account publicly declared company’s plan to upgrade all Lumia smartphones with Windows Phone 8 to Windows 10 next year.

A report from September claimed that the company would be releasing the developer preview of the mobile version of Windows 10 in January 2015. From what we have heard so far, the Windows 10’s mobile version will feature split-screen multi-tasking for handsets with 4.9-inch or larger displays. The operation system is also pegged to come with actionable notification which will supposedly let users interact and respond to notifications without opening the corresponding app.
The earlier report also suggested that while the new operating system will arrive on all Lumia devices running on Windows Phone 8, not all the features will be available on the low-tier smartphones. This is a welcome move from Microsoft to make the operating system available on existing and older devices as well.
When the company announced Windows Phone 8, handsets running Windows Phone 7 weren’t eligible to receive the update. This was due to a major kernel change, and not surprisingly the decision was highly criticized by users.
